After an arson attack at the state office of the FPÖ Lower Austria in St. Pölten three years ago, a second suspect has been detained. According to prosecutors, a DNA match in the context of investigations into a terrorist organization led to the man. A trial date has not yet been set.
“The investigations have not yet been completed,” confirms Leopold Bien of the St. Pölten public prosecutor’s office on Tuesday when asked. A trial date has not yet been set. The DNA match was already at the end of 2021, according to the spokesperson for the public prosecutor.
The prosecution has not disclosed the age or nationality of the suspect. According to “Today” it would be a 29-year-old Iraqi. A suspected accomplice was sentenced to prison in 2020 and two suspects have not yet been identified.
Arson filmed by surveillance camera
In the early morning hours of August 12, 2019, the four suspects are said to have committed an incendiary attack on the state office of the FPÖ Lower Austria. The crime was captured by a surveillance camera. Shortly after the attack, a 21-year-old Afghan man was arrested after visiting a hospital in Vienna for burns.
At the 2020 trial, he was not legally sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison and a previously suspended seven-month prison sentence was revoked.
