According to media reports, the FBI has returned the seized passports of ex-President Donald Trump. That’s what the Department of Justice and law enforcement have said. The passports were seized by federal police last week in connection with searches at Trump’s property in Mar-a-Lago, Florida.
Trump accused the FBI of “stealing” his passports during Monday’s raid. “Wow! During the FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago, they stole my three passports (one expired) and everything else,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, a network he co-founded.
Material about important and irrelevant
According to CBS broadcaster, a team of investigators checked the seized material for important and irrelevant information and discovered the passports. The broadcaster reported that Trump was told on social media on Monday that the passports had surfaced and would be returned.
The FBI said Monday it will follow “court-ordered search and seizure procedures” when executing search warrants and return items that do not need to be retained for law enforcement purposes.
Receipt of seized items published
A Florida court on Friday released receipt of the seized items and search warrant at the request of U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland. The list of seized items includes documents and various boxes. Passports were not explicitly mentioned there.
The FBI had found classified documents in Trump’s house. The operation was based on suspicion that Trump had violated the Espionage Act and other laws, according to the search warrant.
