Sudden end of the holiday together in the holiday home Oberbildstein in Vorarlberg: 30 of the children who were housed there suddenly suffered from vomiting and diarrhea, 18 of them even had to be treated in hospital.
A holiday home in Oberbildstein, where a total of about 100 children were taken care of, was evacuated over the weekend. According to the ORF, the first children complained of symptoms on Saturday evening and a total of 30 people eventually developed vomiting and diarrhea. 18 children were even taken to hospital, where some of them were treated with infusions.
Evacuated at home as a precaution
The director of the home, Wilhelm Oberfrank, reported that all those affected had recovered very quickly from the disease. None of the children currently require hospital treatment. However, as a precaution, the house was temporarily closed and completely disinfected.
Gastrointestinal infection suspected
It is still unclear what exactly caused the children to be sick. A lab result is still pending. Christian Bernhard of the state’s medical directorate suspects a “classic gastrointestinal infection, which can recur over and over in the summer,” he says through the ORF. Food poisoning and novoviruses have so far been ruled out.
