Due to incredible living conditions, 30 chickens, 35 ducks and two geese were taken away in the Styrian district of Weiz on Wednesday morning: the animals were locked in completely dirty boxes, had no water, what little food was available was mouldy; seven young animals did not survive the torture at all. The owner had reportedly gone on an extended vacation…
Neighbors may have noticed the circumstances, luckily they didn’t look the other way but called for help. Official veterinarian Gerhard Kutschera reacted immediately and was also shocked by what he found in the dilapidated buildings: “There were chickens and ducks locked up under roofs in completely desolate conditions, and they were not allowed to go outside. Some of these were also kept isolated. We have saw no water, only a few corn kernels that were already mouldy.Indescribable.”
The dedicated official veterinarian immediately ensured acceptance; unfortunately all help came too late for seven baby ducks. They must have died of thirst.
“We will take good care of them”
The remaining animals were housed in the “Purzel & Vicky” shelter and immediately cared for by the owners, Ingrid and Michael Stracke. You can finally see a pasture and have a pond, “we’ll take good care of you,” the Strakes said.
