While Thursday, especially in the east of Austria, threatens a warm day with up to 37 degrees, huge amounts of rain are coming to the west of the country. Ubimet weather experts say up to 150 liters of rain per square meter could fall on Friday, according to the warning. However, due to the drought, the soil can hardly absorb these amounts…
In eastern Austria, the hottest day of the week will probably reach 37 degrees in the Seewinkel on Thursday. “For the second half of August, these are exceptionally high temperatures, the long-term average is currently around 26 degrees in the eastern lowlands,” say Ubimet weather experts.
In the west it remains “cooler” with maximum values of “only” 28 degrees. The arrival of a front is noticeable, which will bring the first, sometimes heavy, rain showers in Vorarlberg, Tyrol and Upper Carinthia as early as Thursday.
Stormfront brings rain masses
But that’s not all: much greater amounts of rain are feared on Friday. According to the forecast, there is a chance of heavy rain with thunderstorms in Salzburg, North Tyrol and Vorarlberg, which can bring huge amounts of water – up to 100 liters per square meter, in some cases even up to 150. The dried -the soil cannot cope with this mass of water – hence floods or overflowing streams can also be the result.
There should be relaxation on the weekend. The rain is slowly disappearing, the temperatures are starting to rise again and the sun is showing itself again. “In addition, temperatures will rise again to 30 degrees during the week,” according to Ubimet’s forecast.
