Alarm calls from municipalities that they would hardly find any more employees, mainly because of financial backwardness with the business community, have increased recently – we reported on that. Now employer and employee representatives in Upper Austria are pouring a big jet of water on this hot stone.
As of the turn of the year, approximately 10,000 manual workers in the state service, in the cities and towns, and in hospitals will benefit from higher wages and other attractions (eg credit for previous service periods in certain areas). “The total costs for this amount to approximately 30 million euros per year,” explains LH Thomas Stelzer (ÖVP) and emphasizes: “After the successfully completed care package, our common goal was to make manual trading more attractive. This should also make it possible to to get the urgently needed employees.”
Inflation has exacerbated problems
Currently, inflation has exacerbated the problem of municipalities’ competitiveness as employers. Better starting salaries for new hires and salary allowances for long-term staff should make things easier here. Because with the argument of a permanent job, which used to work, you can hardly score anymore these days.
