Metaller Negotiations – “People Get More Pay On Their Account”

Date:

For the chairman of the Tyrolean Chamber of Labour, Erwin Zangerl, it is clear that the wage demands of the metal workers are justified. He also opposes the inclusion of anti-inflation packages in the negotiations. It cannot be the case that employees receive 100 euros less each month due to a one-off payment that quickly gets out of hand.

The wage negotiations with the metal workers are still in full swing. It is clear to Chamber President Erwin Zangerl that the wage demands are justified. “But one thing must also be clear to the economy: loss of real wages means loss of purchasing power. And it means that inflation means that more and more people can no longer afford to pay for their lives. High inflation should be reflected in higher wages. These requirements are therefore understandable,” says Zangerl.

‘More wages that people can live on’
A particularly acute thorn in the side of the chairman of the Chamber of Labor is the employer’s requirement that the government’s anti-inflation packages be taken into account in wage negotiations. “It makes a serious difference if someone earns 100 euros net less every month just because they got a one-time bonus of 500 euros. What would really help people is more pay in their bills – and not in a homeopathic form, but in a way that people can afford to live,” Zangerl clarifies.
