Bad news from the Magna factory in Graz: about 1800 employees are affected by a “temporary personnel adjustment”.
A total of 9,000 people currently work at the Magna-Steyr plant in Graz-Thondorf. There was bad news for 1800 of them recently: “We have informed the staff of the Graz plant that at the beginning of May, due to a planned program change, production in some areas will be changed from 2-shift to 1-shift for a temporary period,” confirmed the group headquarters in Frankfurt when asked about a report by the “Kleine Zeitung”.
This new employment plan comes with a “temporary adjustment” – for a period of five weeks. The word “termination” was not spoken to the “Krone”. The spokesman for the company spoke of “established personnel measures” such as holiday discounts, use of time credits or suspension contracts with guaranteed redeployment.
BMW before leaving Graz
It’s no secret that production of the BMW 5 Series is being phased out in Graz. When asked, they declined to say how they would compensate for the loss of this major customer. “Please understand that we cannot provide any further information at this time.”
