The Interalpin trade fair in Innsbruck entered its 24th round on Wednesday. On about 40,000 square meters, 650 exhibitors will be presenting their innovations until Friday. Special guest at the opening was the Minister of Transport from India. There is a lot of investment in cable cars there.
The Interalpin trade fair in Innsbruck was officially opened on Wednesday. Everything that is of prestige and prestige in the cable car industry is also represented there on Thursdays and Fridays. “We are back, stronger and better than ever before,” Franz Hörl, Austria’s top cable car operator, said at the opening. “The fair is a platform for exchange, partnerships and friendships,” said fair director Christian Mayerhofer. For World Cup president Christoph Walser, the Interalpin is “the leading trade fair in the Alpine region and Tyrol is the world market leader in the cable car business”.
Innsbruck’s mayor Georg Willi (Greens) said that “the first Interalpin took place 50 years ago as a small trade fair in Igls. Today it is the most popular trade fair in the world in the cable car business”.
Transport Minister from India special guest
Meanwhile, LH Anton Mattle (ÖVP) recalled that “Tirol has recognized the opportunities of tourism. With the cable cars, he had made significant progress. The industry provides added value to the population and creates employment in the valleys.”
India’s Transport Minister, Nitin Gadkari, was welcomed as a special guest. The cable car business is really thriving there. “Over the next five years alone, we will be investing $5 trillion in various projects.” Austria and Tyrol are important partners.
650 exhibitors show the latest innovations
About 650 exhibitors present themselves on approximately 40,000 square meters of space. The “Tiroler Krone” came by to see them. Doppelmayr has been using cable cars as a form of public transport for years. “Cable cars emit no emissions, take up little space on the ground and are quick and cheap to build compared to other means of transport,” explains Julia Schwärzler.
Ski resorts are currently investing more in summer sports. “Mountain biking is developing into a popular sport as many routes are being built for families,” says Gottfried Gram from Smart Solution. Snow cannon manufacturers such as Technoalpin also thrive when there is little snow. Mountain rescue company Tyromont is also doing good business, because according to marketing manager Bernhard Schönherr, unfortunately more and more accidents are happening in the mountains.
New opportunities, but also new challenges for alpine sports
The Interalpin is all about making the best use of the mountain. The summer program is becoming increasingly important for many ski areas. If there is no snow for skiing, you can go down by bike, for example. The cable car manufacturer Doppelmayr developed new ways of transporting bicycles in gondolas.
However, due to the rise of mountaineering, mountain rescue has to do two or three things. “Especially due to the rise of ski touring and e-bikes since Corona, many people end up in the mountains without experience, know-how and the right equipment,” says exhibitor Bernhard Schönherr, “In addition, many guests are on the mountain with dogs, which is why Tyromont has a harness to rescue dogs from gondolas. The harness can also be used for avalanche dogs.”
