Angry long-distance letter driver – why the prices at the rest stop are so high

Our test of the four largest service station chains on Austria’s motorways enraged one reader so much that he wrote us an angry letter. In it he not only underlines the usury with peppered words, he also reports on his wealth of experience as a long-distance driver – and how he and his colleagues manage to help each other. Plus: That’s why the prices in the service areas “must” be so high – say the operators.

The prices at the rest areas cause a lot of problems, not only because Conny Winiwarter and Peter Stadlmüller carried out the large rest area test for the “Krone” to show where customers get off and how best to do it (see also video above). For 8.20 euros for a bottle of mineral water you can’t really speak of that.
