Production is increasing – mozzarella from Austria becomes a hit in Italy

Date:

Mattighofen! Many people think of Stefan Pierer’s motorcycle empire with the brands KTM, Husqvarna, GasGas and MV Agusta. What few people know: Berglandmilch produces mozzarella in the town of Feldkirchen in Upper Austria, ten kilometers away. And because Italians like it so much, production is being expanded.

In the coming days, the expansion at the Berglandmilch factory in Feldkirchen near Mattighofen will be completed, after which expanded production can be ramped up. “We are doubling the capacity of our mozzarella balls,” says director Josef Braunshofer.

More cheese to satisfy the appetite in Germany and Italy
According to Braunshofer, there are already buyers for the additional 125 gram pieces produced in the Innviertel. “We are leaning heavily towards Germany and, interestingly, Italy,” said the boss of Austria’s largest dairy. Mozzarella from Austria is an export hit for our neighbors, who apparently depend on cheese from Feldkirchen for pizza and caprese.

When it gets warmer, demand increases
Who is the typical mozzarella buyer? “It is a product for young consumers,” says Berglandmilch’s boss. And one for warmer days. Because the dairy farmer knows: “The time for mozzarella has only just begun. If it gets really warm at the end of March, our planner must take this into account. As soon as temperatures rise, demand increases to four times what we last had. We have to be prepared for that.”
