Next escalation in the US-China technology and trade war: China plans to ban foreign-made processors from its telecommunications network, according to a media report.
Authorities ordered the largest domestic carriers early this year to phase out non-Chinese processors central to their networks by 2027, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday. This step would have consequences for, among others, the American chip giants Intel and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD).
Shares of the two companies fell slightly in premarket trading. In view of the increasing tensions between the US and China, Beijing is increasingly trying to replace Western technologies with its own alternatives.
