Germans angry: – Reduced gas supply “politically” motivated

Date:

For “technical” reasons, Russia currently supplies about 40 percent less gas through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline – that is, the supply pipeline that is particularly relevant to Germany. German Economy Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) classifies the action as politically motivated.

He is also under the impression that “what happened yesterday is a political decision, not a technically sound decision,” Habeck said in Berlin on Wednesday. Gazprom announced on Tuesday that it would reduce gas volumes through the Nord Stream pipeline in the Baltic Sea by 40 percent.

Russia is slowly cutting supplies
Habeck followed suit with the earlier cessation of gas supplies to Bulgaria, Poland and Denmark and the sanctioning of Gazprom Germania. De Groene politician spoke of a piecemeal or step-by-step approach.

He explained that maintenance work by Siemens would not take place until the autumn. Gazprom cited delays in repairs by Siemens of a gas compressor unit as the reason. “We (…) have no supply problem in Germany”, assured Habeck at the same time. We have to wait for the effects. Until now, the suppliers have always managed to “bring gas from other sources”.
