Future assured – billion “yes” for the BMW plant in Steyr

Date:

“Combustion engines are outdated. The Steyr factory will certainly be scaled back in the coming years” – this is the swan song that has been sung time and again to the BMW factory in recent months. Now the skeptics are silent. Reason: The vehicle manufacturer swears allegiance to Steyr, renewed its “yes” against the venue – loud and clear.

In effect, this means that the development of high-performance e-motors is ramped up at the plant managed by Alexander Susanek. In addition, from 2025, the series production of electric motors for a wide range of models will come into operation – with a capacity of more than 600,000 units per year.

To date, almost a billion euros has been invested for this alone. “For us, this is the most important milestone since the foundation stone was laid for the factory more than 40 years ago,” Susanek says cheerfully. Production for diesel and petrol engines will also continue.

Construction work on the site is already underway, which also convinced Chancellor Karl Nehammer and Governor Thomas Stelzer. The ‘yes’ gives the 4,400 employees certainty: by 2030 more than half of the employees will be working in the field of e-mobility.
