Carriers ask fuel subsidy to be increased to 40 cents

Date:

The National Committee demands direct aid from the government of 1,250 euros for trucks and 500 euros for vans over the next three months

The unstoppable rise in fuel prices in Spain has led carriers to again demand new measures from the government to alleviate their situation. If last week it was the Platform for the Defense of Road Transport – the ones that led to the strikes last March – that threatened another strike if they didn’t take action, now it’s the National Committee for the Transport of Goods (CNTC) itself. . the highest representative body of the sector – those applying for new aid.

The first is to extend the bonus of 20 cents per liter of fuel until December 31, an “essential” matter for the sector as fuel represents more than 30% of the operating costs of these companies, said Ramón Valdivia, vice president executive of ASTIC. (Association of International Road Transport).

But since they believe that these subsidies are being “absorbed” by the market due to the increase in fuel prices, they ask for a new support of 20 cents for professional transport, especially for vehicles up to 7.5 tons, a total of 40 cents. cent subsidy.

In addition, they are asking for a quarter of direct aid for freight transporters, depending on the type of vehicle, which will be 1,250 euros for trucks and 500 euros for vans. This measure is the same one agreed with the government in March, but the carriers are demanding that it be extended by another quarter.

From Astic they criticize that the fuel price is 50% higher than in June last year, and it should be taken into account that a heavy truck refuels about 4,000-4,500 liters per month. In addition, natural gas trucks, which use some 15,000 heavy vehicles in Spain, cost 5,500 euros per year to fill the tank, compared to 2,500 euros.
