Christmas is over, but not the shopping mood. Bargains and vouchers drew the masses to the Mahü.
For two days there was a wonderful holiday peace in the shopping streets. The shopping continued on Friday. No wonder vouchers were the most popular gift this year. We were on Vienna’s largest shopping street, Mariahilfer Straße, and asked around. “I’m here today because I’m looking for an anniversary gift for my girlfriend. But I’m surprised how busy it is,” says Cem Ciulan. His companion, in turn, goes on a bargain hunt, with a special eye for perfumeries. Caroline Tropschuh, on the other hand, doesn’t want to spend too long in the shopping street: “I have to exchange something. Once that’s over, I’ll quickly escape the hustle and bustle again.”
Redeem vouchers and shop for bargains
And here too, many people came today to exchange vouchers. “I would have liked to receive more vouchers so that I can buy what I want with them. “So I got an ugly sweater that I have to exchange,” says Luka S.
In any case, retailers are cheering about the crowds. “We have our hands full, it will certainly be even busier at the weekend,” says a saleswoman in a fashion store. And Ilyas Gül, who owns a tailor’s shop on a side street of Mahü, can barely save himself from work. “We benefit from online trading because the clothes that people order usually do not fit,” said the 55-year-old.
Change of location to Lugner City. By noon the parking garage is already full and there is already a lot to do in the shopping center. “The Christmas activities were very good this year and I am sure there will be a lot going on until the New Year. “The holidays are going very well this time,” reports director Gerald Friede.
At the same time, a New Year’s Eve market has already been set up where visitors are enticed to shop again.
Some tourists also mingle with the Viennese. “I’m from Brazil and I’m here on holiday. I mainly bought Christmas decorations. “It’s much nicer here than at home,” says Nara Alwes.
