The political battle in Burgenland will begin soon. The parties are still exercising restraint.
Politically, there was something like the calm before the storm around Christmas Eve and the holidays. After the Christmas holidays, the final sprint to the polls officially starts on January 19, 2025.
SPÖ club chairman Roland Fürst considers the ceiling for the election campaign of 300,000 euros, which was decided in June – at the initiative of the state governor – with the votes of the SPÖ and the Greens in the state parliament, “absolutely the right decision”.
“Strict party support law for all states”
“This means that Burgenland has the strictest party support law of all states,” Fürst emphasizes. It is clear from the posters, advertisements and election gifts that the parties are spending less money. “That was exactly our goal, as the population does not understand an extremely expensive material struggle before the state elections, especially around Christmas,” explains the SPÖ club chairman.
According to Fürst, this is a positive side effect: “So far the election campaign has been fairly fair. We can only hope that this will remain the case until January 19.” The SPÖ election campaign starts on January 6 in Oberwart.
