This week the light went out in the last KiKa/Leiner locations, 3900 employees had to go. Martina Pölz (58) is one of them. With Conny Bischofberger she talks about the end of a golden age, about commercial bosses you looked up to, and about “Messiah” René Benko, from which she is “bottomless”.
She comes to St. Pölten Cafè “Tritsch-Tratz” with a small plastic basket full of memories. Photos of the past, newspaper articles, Kaffeehäferl with the “Leiner” Engel, her white work blouse with the green logo. “I had to cry again tomorrow,” she says and asks Christian for a cappuccino. Martina Pölz (58) was part of the Kika/Leiner family for 40 years. In the past ten years, she has also witnessed the relegation of the former market leader in the trade in the home furniture. It was finally over on Wednesday.
