If the Rail Control Commission gives the green light, the Westbahn could run from Vienna to Innsbruck and back five times a day from December. ÖBB requested an economic equilibrium test. The decision will be available in about six weeks.
If the Westbahn, which is largely private, gets its way, the city of Innsbruck should also be connected to the route network after the timetable change in December. A corresponding application was submitted to the local rail manager in April. However, documents from both sides are still missing and comments have already been requested. Once all documents are available, the Schein Audit Committee can make a decision.
ÖBB has applied for an exam
As the APA reports, the Westbahn reported their plans too late. This also means that “the risk has been taken that the decision cannot be made in time for the timetable change,” says Rail Control Director Maria-Theresia Röhsler. A new passenger train service is required for at least 18 months before the network’s timetable comes into effect. ÖBB subsequently submitted an examination of the economic equilibrium of its public service contract.
If the application goes through, the Westbahn plans to run between Vienna and Innsbruck five times a day, each with 506 seats, with a scheduled journey time of four hours and 17 minutes.
