After the bloody act in Traiskirchen (Lower Austria), in which a freelancer shot a 55-year-old on Sunday and a woman (25) was seriously injured, the judiciary now takes the first consequences: when assessing risks, reports on social media must also be used in the future …
A cocaine problem, a life full of violence and dark threats on Facebook – that is the prehistory of the bloody deed of Trakirchen, which cost two people on Sunday. The 66-year-old Josef P., an ex-red light boss with more than 20 criminal registers, shot his ex-girlfriend Vanessa N. (25) and her new partner Thomas H. (55). The man died on the spot, Vanessa survived seriously injured. Josef P. committed suicide a little later.
Dark messages on Facebook
Josef P. was not a stranger in the Red Light Environment and was recently in prison for domestic violence against Vanessa N. Despite his prehistory, he was regularly granted to free access-the 66-year-old was considered affordable with the judicial officers. But the social networks told another story: his Facebook reports recently became darker, he wrote about “enemies” and announced “a big surprise”.
The Ministry of Justice now admits: “The tragic event makes it clear that, despite the existing executable structures and interdisciplinary specialized teams, there may be situations in which safety -relevant developments are not recognized or properly classified.”
Recognize early threats
As part of the project “Prison Intelligence” must be assessed on an even more extensive basis for the assessment of potential risk chargers. The aim is to recognize safety -relevant dangers and to control it more effectively.
Analyze communication on social media
For this purpose, data from different sources – such as observations of the executive staff, indications of radicalization, conflict behavior or the analysis of communication, in particular on social media – are systematically collected, evaluated and integrated into the decision -making process. This is especially true for measures such as losing in prison or approval.
The earlier focus on terrorism and organized crime must now be specifically expanded with the area of violence, such as various media report. In an official statement it is emphasized: “Only by differentiated analyzes and adapted standards can security risks be recognized at an early stage and tragic cases prevent the best possible way.”
