One of the star measures of the new package of measures to mitigate the effects of inflation that the cabinet has approved is the discount on the transport pass. The executive has promised to subsidize 50% of the price of state transport (Renfe) and to help 30% of the price dependent on communities and municipalities (metro and buses), which is set at 200 million euros, according to what this Wednesday the Minister of Transport, Raquel Sánchez, after the sectoral meeting with the regional councilors.
An “insufficient” amount according to some of these councilors, such as Galicia, who at the end of the meeting insisted to the media that with this transfer they cannot help the citizens to the required extent and that most of the budget is spent. It will be worn by the Community of Madrid.
Faced with this criticism, the minister recalled that it is the communities that have the powers in the field of transport, so “it is in their hands” to reduce the price of the transport pass. And it is that the idea of the executive is to transfer these 200 million so that the communities subsidize 30% of the fertilizers, which can reduce with their own resources “up to 50% or even more” if they want to , confirmed Sánchez .
The head of Transport explained that this measure, which will come into effect on September 1 – coinciding with the return of most students and workers from vacation – has a “tight but sufficient” deadline to start. In addition, they shared with the communities from the ministry the criteria of this bonus, which they want to be “simple and agile” because they believe that there is “little time” to adapt the reduction mechanisms of said fertilizers.
For example, the methodology designed by the Ministry for its implementation aims mainly at “that it does not entail any management for the citizen and that they can be applied as quickly as possible”, so that the administrations “place the citizen at the center and work in coordination” Transportes said in a statement.
Likewise, the ministry discussed with the regional councilors the transfer of 110 million euros in aid so that the communities make the corresponding calls to improve the digitization of small and medium-sized companies in the transport sector.
Sánchez assured that the distribution criteria are determined based on the population of the region. For example, Andalusia will be the region that receives the most funding for the digitization of SMEs in the transport sector, with a total amount of 19.6 million euros. It is closely followed by Catalonia, with €18 million, and Madrid, with €15 million.
