Million Mills Post – Trump’s rates meet Salzburg companies

Date:

“We all do not know how to continue,” says Georg Hemetsberger of the Sulzau who throws ironwork. 120 companies from the federal state regularly export to the US.

The Wild Customs policy of US President Donald Trump also provides care pipes and glowing threads in the Salzburg head office. “We belong to the companies that are being hit en masse,” says Georg Hemetsberger, head of the traditional Ironworks Sulzau throwing. The company is very oriented, 20 percent of production recently went to the United States.

Even the reduced rates of ten percent, which are currently valid, cause extra costs in the Pongau operation in the millions. That is why Trump’s intermediary customs for EU countries does not change the worries. Because ten percent of all goods that go to the United States stay upright. Also 25 percent inches on steel and aluminum goods, as well as cars and car parts.

“We can spread the rates most to customers on the negotiating path, but that is also difficult,” says Hemetsberger. In any case, the planning protection has disappeared. “We all do not know how to continue,” says the company boss with a view to Trump’s plans in the medium term.

A billion euros exports from Salzburg to the US
Remarkable: for metal rolls such as the Sulzau -throw ironwork, the United States is highly dependent on the input. “Our customers in the US are currently also restless,” reports Hemetsberger. At different levels, an attempt is currently being made in the United States to negotiate an exceptional rule for the rates for metal roles.

The crane manufacturer Palfinger is also hit from Salzburg. “We are currently evaluating the concrete effects of the current announcements and checking for the individual product groups,” says Palfinger -Baas Andreas Klauser. Going to the US with a North -American headquarters in Schaumburg, Illinois and four production locations has also proved to be correct in this respect.

The plastic specialist Senoplast from Piesendorf benefits from a work in Mexico. There are currently still duty -free goods goods. It is different with products from Austria that are influenced by the rates. The United States is also an important market for Senoplast. “Our work in Mexico is particularly strongly focused on the US,” says Günter Klepsch.

120 Salzburg companies regularly export directly to the US. The export volume is a good billion euros, which is just over seven percent of all Salzburg exports.
