Gas alarm: to save money, many have already reduced their energy consumption – but the weather also helps.
It is not only the gas crisis that causes the sweat drops, but also the summer heat. But that helps a lot when it comes to inflation. Because: In the warmer months, less gas is used, as all energy suppliers in the country confirm. For example, in May and June there was a sharp drop in gas and electricity consumption compared to the previous year due to the heat. One reason is that Austrians watch their wallets and save where they can.
“But there can be no question of meaning,” says Christian Call of Wiener Netze. The decrease in gas and electricity is more related to higher temperatures than in 2021.
Wien Energie uses the same approach. Currently, no “energy saving effect” is noticeable. But: “Every saving helps supply, the stock market and the climate,” says Lisa Grohs.
In Burgenland, however, there is a stronger demand for PV systems. Even if the summer heat is currently weighing down the numbers, everyone should be getting ready for fall.
Stefan Zach of EVN, the largest energy supplier, also attributes the decline to the boom in private photovoltaic systems. But the more conscious use of energy by many customers also plays a major role. His tip: one degree less heating saves six percent in costs.
