More than 81,000 people have already applied for the free Renfe subscription

Date:

On the first day of the term, the number of registered users has been multiplied by more than 20 compared to the daily average

This Monday, the Renfe website is open where you can register to receive subscriptions to travel for free on Cercanías and Media Distancia trains, as well as 50% on Avant, for returning passengers. And interested parties didn’t want to wait: more than 81,000 people signed up on this first registration day, although subscriptions that can be used from September 1 will not be received until August 24.

That’s 23 times more than the just over 3,500 people who register on the Renfe website on average every day. Of the total users registered yesterday, 48,175 did so via the internet, 22,735 on the Renfe app, 9,986 on the Cercanías app and 127 on the Avlo website, as reported by the railway company in a statement on Tuesday.

Registering is the first step to receive the August 24 subscription, which is valid from September 1 to December 31. To acquire the subscription, although it is free, a deposit of 10 euros (Cercanías) or 20 euros (Media Distancia) must be paid, which will be refunded at the end of the subsidy period if the passenger makes more than 16 journeys on these trains, with the aim of helping returning travelers.

Users who have paid this deposit by card will receive the refund automatically from December 31, while those who paid in cash will be refunded at the cash registers of the stations.

It should be borne in mind that the subscriptions are one-time and only allow travel from the same origin and destination, in an effort that the money does not go to users who only travel occasionally for leisure, they explain from the operator.

José Rodríguez, director of Cercanías Business, explained on Monday that interested parties have “enough time” to register with Renfe and access these subscriptions. Likewise, he advised to plan travel well from September 1 and avoid rush hours.
