20,000 spectators enjoyed the quality of the San Javier Festival

The competition, which kicked off on August 5 with the Compañía Acosta Danza, sold out tickets featuring Els Joglars, Carlos Sobera and ‘Miles Gloriosus’, and the concert by Ariel Rot and Kiko Veneno

Twenty thousand spectators, according to the figures managed by the management team, enjoyed the 52nd Festival of Theater, Music and Dance of San Javier, organized by the coastal municipal council and led by the also Councilor for Education and Culture, David Martínez, It was with great success concluded, including fireworks, with the performance of ‘Paraíso Perdido’, an excellent show directed by Andrés Lima and based on the acclaimed poem of the same title by John Milton.

The program began on August 5 with the Compañía Acosta Danza and the show ‘Tocororo’, directed and choreographed -but not performed, as expected- by ​​the internationally renowned Cuban artist Carlos Acosta. The event, with Pepe Ibáñez as deputy director and sponsored by LA VERDAD, has offered a total of twelve hall shows, divided as follows: ten in the Parque Almansa Auditorium, the main venue of the festival, and two in the Centro Culture of Santiago de la Ribera. The offer also included three street assemblies, represented in different enclaves of the municipality.

There have been three shows that have registered a full house – a good turnout of the audience was the norm at all performances –: the theatrical production ‘Let Aristófanes come out!’, by the experienced Catalan company Els Joglars, exactly the one that received in this 52nd edition the San Javier Award 2022 for a whole career; ‘Miles Gloriosus’, the staging of the Mérida Festival starring the popular actor and television face Carlos Sobera; and the concert ‘A land to listen to’, by the already historic Ariel Rot and Kiko Veneno.

An edition, that of August 2022, which left some excellent performances to remember, and also the overwhelming performance of the Murcian actress Marta Nieto leading Lydia Cacho’s monologue ‘La infamia’. One of the most acclaimed, ‘Ladies Football Club’, a music theater production whose brilliant direction draws Sergio Peris-Mencheta, who in turn is responsible for the adaptation, together with Daniel Val, of the original work of Stefano Massini. And for fun, the audience thanked Ron Lalá and his ‘Villa y Marte’ on their feet.

David Martínez, who congratulates himself on “having once again managed to enthuse the public and bring culture closer to society, by also using the theater as a tool for social awareness”, also emphasizes “the increase in hotel reservations in related to the celebration of the festival, as well as the movement that this diverse programming of performing arts brings in the restoration sector».
