Tanxugueiras, headliners of the Folkfest in February 2023

To make root music visible, the third edition includes an exhibition of photos, workshops and conversations with artists

The Víctor Villegas Regional Auditorium will host the third edition of the Folkfest from February 10-12, 2023, the event aimed at promoting popular music to the public of the Murcia region. The Institute of Cultural Industries and the Arts (ICA) has partnered with Surefolk in the production of this festival, which contributes to greater visibility of the regional talent of root music.

Four artists from the Murcia region and another five nationals, in addition to lectures, workshops, parades, a photo exhibition and the screening of a documentary, make up the program. Several traditional groups from the region will be present at the festival, such as Azarbe, the folk group inspired by the popular music formations of southeastern Spain, the cuadrillas, whose members come from the field of traditional music and have a good command of the language of the peasants . melodies of rope; ‘The parade of Tío de la Pita de Caravaca’, with its dulzainero and its tamboril; Maestro Espada, an exciting musical project in which analog synthesizers marry castanets and show that electronics will also be folklore; and Juan José Robles, who presents his third album ‘Transiciones’, with more personal creations through his instruments: mandolin, lute, octavilla, bouzouki, guitars and guitarists.

As for the presence of artists from other regions, the poster of the new edition will feature Tanxugueiras (Galicia), who have visited more than a hundred stages in just three years, making Galician songs with tambourines better known to the general public; El Mantel de Noa (Aragon), Timples and other small guitars of the world (Canary Islands); El Nuevo Mester de Juglaría (Castilla y León) and Pep López (Catalonia), who will perform on the stage of the Víctor Villegas his show of music and dance about pirates and boarding to share with the family.

The programming starts on Friday 10 February with the first concert session and the exhibition: ‘Tío Juan Rita: A Photographic Tribute (1984-2018)’. A selection of images that were part of the first exhibition of the year 2020, made by professional and amateur photographers called up via social networks.

On Saturday September 11, the traditional workshop tambourine percussion, with Óscar Esteban, and the screening of the documentary ‘Al otro lado del mar’, by Gonzalo Ballester, with a closing colloquium in which ‘Patricia La Trovera’, ‘The girl with the cupcake’ and ‘ Emilio de Patino’. On the same day, the ‘Folk vs. World Music’.

February 12 includes the family cajon and body percussion workshop, with Pepe Abellán; the parade of Tío de Pita de Caravaca; the Pep López family session and the third concert day.

Subscriptions and tickets can be sold via the ‘folkfestmurcia’ and ‘auditoriomurcia’ websites and at the auditorium box office. From this Friday until November 27, season tickets are available for the three days of concerts for 45 euros and from November 27 single tickets at a price of 30 euros for the first day and 20 euros for each of the two following.
