‘Voices of the soul’ in Semitiel’s brush

Date:

Siyasa Museum. Until this Sunday, the ciezano painter is exhibiting portraits of fifteen characters slumbering in his memory

Man’s deepest feelings can surface in a thousand ways. They can do it spontaneously, but also more consciously because of certain qualities. In the case of José Semitiel Segura (Cieza, 1961) and his last exhibition, ‘Voces del alma’, it could be a combination of both. Not in vain, the title of the exhibition speaks for itself, because those voices that come out of the most inscrutable are the ones that have marked his own life. These now emerge through the portraits of fifteen characters that slumber in the memory of the brave painter from Cieza and which can be seen until Sunday in the Siyâsa Museum in Cieza.

Among them, and with an essential and great main role, their parents stand out, which places Semitiel Segura at the origin. He also set fire to one of his teachers, the teacher and artist of Ciego, now deceased, Juan Solano. His parachutist instructor Antonio Pagán Pastor, his cartoonist friend Antonio Fernández, his own daughter Marta Semitiel and the artist Miguel Olmos are also missing. All the photos are scattered in the two main rooms of the old Cieza casino.

As a realistic painter and that is how he defines himself, Semitiel Segura presents us with extremely vivid paintings in which he has impregnated each of the faces, not just a portrait. He has also managed to capture a character, a smile and even a state of mind. “This exhibition is a biography in images of the story of my life,” notes the author.

In the prologue to the catalog prepared for this exhibition, Pascual Vera, head of the UMU Communication Service, writes about Semitiel Segura: «He is a historian of emotions. As the poet Marcial said, remembering is living twice, and our artist places and composes old memories in order to relive them in his mind, in his mind and even in his entrails, and he serves them to us in the form of images. of which he is the only demiurge who is able to unravel its true meaning, but which have a profound emotional effect on the spectators that also inevitably captures it».

The painter Semitiel Segura boasts one of the most relevant painting academies in the region. Dozens of promising young artists from all over the region are trained in its facilities. This ‘painter of emotions’ was trained at the Cieza School of Art by the coveted Juan Solano (1923-2005). He was there until 1974, the year in which he started a new journey giving courses and workshops in countries such as China, Japan, France and the United States.

‘Voces del alma’ is on display until November 6 at the Siyâsa Museum from Tuesday to Saturday: from 11 am to 1.30 pm and from 5.30 pm to 9 pm. Sundays and public holidays: from 10:30 am to 2:00 pm.
