The daughter and aunt of the writer from Madrid who died in 2022 and the mayor of the municipality discover a souvenir plaque in the building

Since yesterday, the municipal library of Blanca has been renamed Almudena Grandes Library. His daughter, Elisa García, discovered the plaque in the Plaza de la Iglesia, where the space is located. The event was attended by the mayor of Blanca, Pedro Luis Molina (PSOE); Almudena’s aunt, Lola Grandes; the painter Pedro Cano; the cultural manager Victorio Melgarejo and practically the entire government team of the church council. No opposition councilor did.

The mayor took the floor to say that “this is an act of justice for the injustices women have suffered, while at the same time we include more female names on the streets and in public buildings.” About Almudena Grandes, National Narrative Award (2018); Jean Monnet (2020), Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts (2021) and Favorite Daughter of Madrid (2022),

Molina pointed out that “she has been a tireless fighter for dignity and decency, as well as a defender of freedoms and democracy, messages that have reached a wide spectrum of readers.” The daughter of Almudena Grandes thanked the recognition and apologized for the absence of her father, Luis García Montero, director of the Cervantes Institute, “because of his extensive agenda.”

Elisa García, moved during her first visit to Valle de Ricote, reminded the audience of the two sentences she remembers best about her mother. “She said if she was paid to read she wouldn’t write and that the greatest of her rewards is her readers.” He later visited the facilities of the building in the Plaza de la Iglesia. Immediately afterwards he traveled to the Pedro Cano Foundation and finally took part in the literary colloquium ‘Río de Letras’, led by José Antonio Molina, which revolved around the figure of Almudena Grandes.
