Co Down Man launches podcast where he talks to celebrities about the afterlife

Date:

Imagine you are at the gateway to eternity/heaven/hall and you have three questions to ask God (whoever you don’t believe in, him or him), does this sound interesting to you?

This is exactly the basis of the new comedy podcast featuring several famous comedians and is the brainchild of Co Down man Matt White.

Matt, a former student at Regent House and Queen’s University, left Northern Ireland at the age of 21 to work in the army and move to Essex. But after five years he decided it was time for a change and began to realize his dream of working on television.

“I moved to Essex at the age of 21 to work in the Salvation Army, I’ve done that for five or six years, and then I felt I wanted something different, so I tried to get into the media, a little volunteer at the local radio station. The station is trying to become a stand-up comedian, I got it wrong!

I thought I wanted to be up front, all of this, but in the meantime I’ve been working in the background as a runner, researcher, all of this and what I found really liked was the creative process of making television and ultimately it. Where was I supposed to go.

Matt smiled, “And I’m not good enough to be a TV presenter, so podcasts and podcasts are really going to be a jam for me.”

Brushing his teeth in the background and meeting on TV and working with big comedy stars including Harry Hill and Patrick Keel, a chance encounter with a podcast producer for the TV work he’s been doing forced him to see his podcast idea of the right niche. life.

“I think I’ve always been someone with a lot of ideas in mind and I remember writing something on the phone like ‘The Stars Are Coming To Heaven’s Door, Asking Three Questions’ and I just walked in. The notes on my phone are where I put all my random thoughts.

A few months later I met a podcast producer who wanted to talk to me about a TV topic, we had lunch together and I told him I’d be happy to ask you questions about podcasting. I had this idea and I want advice and he asked me what the idea was.

“I told him and he said, ‘Uh, I’d like to talk to you about this anytime,'” and our meeting went on, and a few weeks later, he called and said he never took you. Coffee to talk about the idea for this podcast and I apologize for being so busy, but I was glad to know what kind of equipment you had I should buy it and he said, ‘Don’t buy what I want to produce’.

“So, Joel [Porter] Whoever runs this amazing podcast company called Dot, Dot, Dot and makes the best comic podcasts, has millions of downloads, name awards, is incredibly talented and take it and go away. “

At this moment, only God knows. The premise of the podcast is to see Matt meet the famous guest at the entrance to Eternity/Heaven/Abyss, learn how they died (usually something wonderful and fun) and then be given the opportunity to ask God three questions (who may be, may or may not be). Three questions give the host and beyond the opportunity to talk about any topic, from life and profession to philosophy or religion.

Moreover, Christian himself, despite his strong conviction, does not podcast on the subject, or publish what he thinks is more important than what others think.

“I think what we always tell people when we do that is we don’t need to talk about anything. This is a world where if people want to talk about religion and belief, and that happens a lot, we talk about religion. And faith, but if people show up and want to talk about their childhoods Or their marriage or their bullying, even if only God knows, we never make the rules, we never say what heaven is, we never say who God is.One of the questions we ask people is: Who is this god? And we get all the answers. There are no laws.

“I think what we’ve tried to do and what we’re left with is that there are really no biases or rules, it’s literally a free and open space and all I have to do there is ask questions and maybe ask more.

“It comes from a place where I firmly believe we need spaces to be able to talk about what’s different, whether it’s later in life, or death, or spirituality, or religion, or faith or something else, I just think that space really does exist. Rarely I don’t think people are afraid to go, or that this is a place completely surrounded by religious people.

“I wanted to create a space where everyone can express their opinions, whatever happens, so that they are not angry and not judged. I have friends of all faiths and we have the best conversations about what everyone believes in.”

The first series featured familiar comedy names, including Patrick Kilt, whom Matt met while working as producer on Delete, Delete, Delete.

“Patrick Kilt agreed to come to me on the show and I finished Episode 10 of the first series, which was a huge moment, but also terrifying, because I grew up in Northern Ireland and Buddy was like a champ. To me…there was a reason I wanted to be on TV, Then I was allowed to film it on TV which is amazing and all of a sudden I got interviewed, so it was horrible. But Buddy was likable and kind and sweet to me. And we ended up with a really great episode.”

God knows it’s now available on Acast, iTunes and Spotify. The second series began on September 30 with special guest Hugh Dennis.
