The Catalan filmmaker Marc Recha (‘A perfect day to fly’, ‘La vida libre’, ‘Pau and his brother’) is currently working on the last recordings of ‘Ruta Salvaje’, which he did entirely in the Pyrenees of Cerdanya . A disturbing rural thriller has been shot for five weeks, starring Sergi López, Montse Germán and Marc Martínez as protagonists and many of the region’s residents as secondary actors.
‘Ruta Salvaje’ (‘Ruta salvatge’) is defined as a disturbing thriller full of humanity that aims to approach the general public without leaving the author’s cinema. The film is an intriguing suspense story full of suspense right up to the thrilling final eruption. «Author, author… that is his great value», says Marc Martínez of Marc Recha, «and it is a pleasure to work with someone so independent, so free, so crazy, so authentic». Sergi López, for his part, indicates that “filming with Marc Recha is always intense, but also a wonderful adventure.”
‘Wild Route’ tells the story of a woman’s hidden past, the violence she endured, the loss of her partner and the consequences of it all, who are still alive twenty-five years later. After more than ten years working as a gardener for the wealthy owners of the luxurious urbanizations of Cerdanya, Ona is about to turn fifty and wants to quit her job to devote herself to flying a tourist plane. Ona is a strong, reserved woman who did mountain rescues as a private helicopter pilot. Until one day she unexpectedly left him. He settled in the quiet valley of Cerdanya, in the Pyrenees, where he now lives with his son Sergi, a fifteen-year-old teenager. The arrival of some strangers who settle in a villa in the urbanization changes the lives of Ona and the people she loves most, and reveals the most horrific past.
“The weather is very bad, we have had days of everything. Cold, rain… », says actress Montse German. But the actors agree that it was a fun shoot and that it was short for them. In addition to these famous artists, many residents of the region also participate in the film, such as Àlex Bolet, who shoots the last sequence of the film at the Bellver sports center in Cerdanya, where he also lives. He, who had never played as an actor, plays the son of the main character and together with María Martínez, a native of Puigcerdà, they were chosen in a casting. For both, this experience has awakened the worm of interpretation.
“The space where the action of my films takes place is very important to me. I never shoot in a place I don’t know, I have experiences with it all,” says Marc Recha, who dotted the autumn landscape of Cerdanya with ghostly urbanizations full of second weekend homes, like another character, that surrounds and accompanies the rest of the film.
