The big weather change is coming

Date:

The EU elections in Austria were as turbulent as the weather this weekend. The FPÖ has achieved for the first time what it never managed to do under leaders Jörg Haider and Heinz-Christian Strache: it stormed like a thunderclap to number 1 in Austria – with a roar.

The ÖVP, which five years ago was still roaring to just under 35 percent after the alleged destruction of the Blues by the Ibiza exposure under Sebastian Kurz, is apparently falling back to its worst result in the EU elections so far without the turbo that the former Wunderwuzzi gave. and is halfway satisfied with second place.

The SPÖ, which claims to be on the rise, is doing the same as the ÖVP and achieving its worst result so far.

Found out? With respectable results, the Neos, who have recently been declared dead several times, and the Green Lena Schilling, who has been written to death by some media. Her fighting spirit was at least partially rewarded; she gave a powerful sign of life.

Now the storm has subsided. Sunglasses are mandatory for the Blues; the sun is shining so brightly on them just a few months before the National Council elections.

ÖVP and SPÖ, on the other hand, have to unpack rubber boots and weather patches. If that’s enough: it can become even bigger and, above all, more sustainable in September, even though quite a few people think that Karl Nehammer, but even more so Andreas Babler, is already up to their necks in water.

And the rest? Lena Schilling, who tried to sink into an unprecedented mud fight, dug her way out with great difficulty and showed a sign of life. And hopefully this will also send a very clear signal to the mudslingers to avoid such campaigns in the future for themselves and especially for the victims.

The Neos benefited from the weakening of the Greens, but also from the movement of voters away from the ÖVP. If they now think they have the wind at their backs, they could be as mistaken as the Greens.

The current weather forecast? Today was the discharge of thunder cells. The really big change in the weather: it blooms in September.
