The Neos let the three-party coalition negotiations fail in the final stage. There is no willingness for reforms, they say, especially not towards the SPÖ. This move may be subjectively understandable, but objectively speaking it shows political immaturity.
Perfectionists sometimes have a hard time in life. In love, at work and especially in politics, where compromises and the highest common denominator quickly becoming the lowest are part of it. The NEOS also had to learn this, because after weeks of negotiations they realized that they could hardly implement the required and in some cases necessary reforms in the country. The old parties of the former grand coalition blocked everything they could: from freezing party financing to concessions in education and even a mini-pension reform. The SPÖ in particular has lived up to its reputation as a “Njet party”. Andreas Babler recently even questioned the negotiating successes that had already been achieved. Is the exit understandable then?
