“Always been loyal” – Anyone behind Kickl? Misleading Unity in the FPÖ

Date:

After turbulence, the FPÖ Presidium met. The meeting lasted five hours. The goal was to awaken the ghosts…

While unity was shown, there was obviously a great need for discussion. After the turbulence surrounding ex-party member Hans-Jörg Jenewein, the blue party leaders gathered in Vienna on Wednesday for a presidency meeting. The meeting lasted five hours. Despite the length, no one wanted to hear about a crisis.

Most of the state party leaders were buttoned up. FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl pretended that everything was “business as usual”. The current incidents are just an afterthought. The focus would be on the federal party conference and the Hofburg elections.

If you listened closely – especially to the Viennese FPÖ boss Dominik Nepp and the Upper Austrian Oberblauen Manfred Haimbuchner – you might discover a grudge. Nepp responded to such questions with an exaggerated superlative that the mood was of course “excellent as always”.

Nepp left earlier, Haimbuchner silent
Nepp then left the session early. Haimbuchner kept tight: “We are a loyal state party — we always have been.” He declined to comment on how firmly Kickl was in the saddle.

In the meeting of the federal party presidency, Kickl was unanimously (without abstentions) elected as candidate federal party chairman for the party congress on September 17.
