Thursday was the first day of negotiations to increase pensions. Retired representatives met Social Affairs Minister Johannes Rauch. Both parties had previously discussed a kind of first scan.
“In fact, it was a first reconnaissance,” SPÖ senior representative Peter Kostelka said after the approximately two-hour talk about “Krone”. A said increase of 5.8 percent is “certainly not enough” given the enormous inflation and the number of people affected by poverty. Kostelka entered the negotiations with ten percent, “a realistic number”, and expects a concrete solution from the government in September.
Finance Minister Magnus Brunner (ÖVP) and Rauch (Greens) have announced a social graduation. At the end of the negotiations, Ingrid Korosec (ÖVP), president of the Senior Citizens’ Association, wants full compensation for inflation and a “retirement package” that should also integrate the government’s anti-inflation measures.
