A day after the Burgenland governor’s initiative to also include commercial enterprises in the electricity price brake to prevent a wave of bankruptcies, the ÖVP is now also demanding compensation for farmers.
Energy Minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens) must ensure that there is “support in the sense of a brake on the electricity price for local farmers”, OVP Secretary General Laura Sachslehner said in a broadcast on Sunday. Agriculture is central to food security.
“It cannot be that they bear all the responsibility and are now left alone by the energy minister,” Sachslehner said. The secretary-general of the ÖVP had already spoken out in mid-August in favor of compensating companies for gas and electricity prices.
As reported, the federal government wants to finish setting up the electricity price brake by August. The anti-inflation measure would then have to be decided in the National Council in September or October.
