Thousands of people gathered on Paral·lel Avenue in Barcelona this Sunday to take part in the independence demonstration convened by the ANC on the occasion of the Day of September 11although with the significant absence of the visible heads of CKD.

The demonstration, which started at 5.14 pm from Paral lel Avenue and headed for the Estación de Francia, will test the mobilizing power of the independence movement, at the moment of greatest division, after the clash between the ANC and an ERC which has distanced itself from the mobilization in an unprecedented decision because of its critical approach to the dialogue strategy of the government of Pere Aragonès.

In addition to the announced absences of the Catalan President, Pere Aragonesand the ministers of the ERC, neither Oriol Junqueras, nor Marta Vilalta, nor other key leaders attend the demonstration, so that former Speaker of the Parlament Carme Forcadell will be one of the few visible faces of the party in the march.

Also Jovent Republicà, the youth of ERCwill coincide with the ANC demonstration at the Estación de Francia, although sources from this youth organization indicate that they share their party’s assessment of the call.

Those who attended the demonstration were members of the staff of JxCatincluding the general secretary, Jordi Turull, the president, Laura Borràs, and ministers such as Jordi Puigneró or Jaume Giró, as well as Xavier Trias, former mayor of Barcelona, received by his colleagues with cries of “mayor”.

The mobilization, which has as its motto this year “Tornem-hi per vèncer. Independència” (Let’s go back to win. Independence)– It has already been losing momentum in recent years, although there is an indicator that may suggest that this year’s figure could approach or slightly exceed that of 2021: 240 buses have been chartered to protesters from different parts of Catalonia, according to the ANC.

At 6.30 pm, at the end of the march, a political act will begin on the stage next to the Estación de Francia, with interventions by the President of the ANC, Dolors Feliu, the President of Òmnium Cultural, Xavier Antich, and the President of the Association of Municipalities for Independence, Jordi Gaseni.

The celebrations of the Diada of September 11 started this Sunday morning and continued in the morning with the traditional flower offerings to the monument to Rafael Casanova in Barcelona, where the ERC delegation was received with a bang and cries of ‘outside’ and ‘traitors’.
