The presidential election is just around the corner. An office that is most powerful on paper, but is often exercised cautiously in practice. Since 1955 it has been customary for the head of state to act more as a ‘watchdog and mediator’ in domestic politics. And of course communication also plays a key role here. How do the candidates influence the population, what messages do they give us and what do we actually want from a Federal President? In general you could say that we want a jack of all trades, says rhetoric and communication expert Jürgen Eisserer in the Krone Live Talk.
In times of multiple crises we live in, it is important for many people that the need for security and stability is met. “You can mainly follow that in discussions. We often like eloquent and fast people at first. But we also admire people for staying calm in conflict situations and heated discussions,” Eisserer says.
In the video above, rhetoric professional Jürgen Eisserer analyzes which campaigns the candidates use in the election campaign for the office of Federal President and other rhetorical features.
