Macron and Le Pen tied in first round of 2022 presidential election, according to first exit poll

France’s president, centrist Emmanuel Macron and far-right Marie Le Pen would vote equally in the first round of the French presidential election, each with 24% support, the Belgian newspaper reported. The free Belgium from the first exit poll.

Two hours before polls in France close at 8 p.m., the left-wing candidate for the French presidency, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, would take third place, with 19% of the vote, the same newspaper said.

Subsequently, conservative Valérie Pécresse and far-right Eric Zemmour would each get 8% of the vote.

The first estimates of votes, published by The free Belgium and other Belgian media this Sunday at 6 p.m. local time, are the results of a first exit poll conducted by one of the institutes responsible for these surveys, which the newspaper specifies, adding that for this reason it is necessary to be careful with the results, as they are only indicative and may change significantly.

Although French law prohibits the distribution of polls, partial counts or estimates before 8 p.m. on Sunday evening, foreign media, and in particular Belgians, are following the presidential elections in neighboring France with great interest.
