This Thursday marks the 25th anniversary of the death of Ertzaina Txema Aguirre, murdered in 1997, four days before the official opening of the Guggenheim Bilbao, while carrying out surveillance duties next to the museum.
The Lehendakari, Iñigo Urkullu, this Wednesday remembered Txema Aguirre, an Ertzaina murdered 25 years ago by ETA, and “all the people who suffered, directly and indirectly, from the senseless human injustice” of ETA.
Via a social media post, the Lehendakari reminded that tomorrow marks the 25th anniversary of the death of Txema Aguirre, murdered on October 13, 1997, four days before the official opening of the Guggenheim Bilbao, while performing guard duties next to the museum.
The Lehendakari deplored the “usurpation of the name of the Basque Country” by ETA and denounced the so-called “stage of socialization of suffering, which was the whole period of terrorist violence of threats, extortion, persecution, kidnapping, murder and massacre, and its justification “.
In addition, he passed on his memory to Txema Aguirre and “all the people who, directly and indirectly, have suffered, in the name of Basque society, from the futility of such human injustice.”
