Card instead of cash for refugees – Viennese social councilor Peter Hacker of the SPÖ does not like this model much. That also depends on the amount.
Refugees will soon be dealt a bad hand in Germany – in the truest sense of the word. As reported, asylum seekers will no longer be paid in cash in the future, but will receive support on a card. This means that transfers to your home country are blocked, the card only works in your home country and only minimum amounts can be withdrawn. While Austria is now also discussing the map, the Vienna SPÖ has little interest in the idea.
“This discussion is an artificially inflated ant,” said Peter Hacker, Vienna’s city councilor for social affairs, in an interview with the “Krone”. “Refugees in basic care receive pocket money of 40 euros per month. This is a somewhat limited scope. In Germany it is ten times that.” Hacker continues: “It is also shameful that this 40 euros has not been increased for twenty years.” The municipal council does not want to interpret this statement as a requirement for inflation adjustment: “That doesn’t matter, 40 euros.
And he also reiterates his concerns about benefits in kind: “If the state switches to this, it will also have to purchase the benefits. Next, the federal and state governments must take procurement legislation into account. Then there are tenders for popsicles, cinema visits and condoms.”
