Show responsibility – Tyrolean Greens: Sobotka must “put office on hold”

Date:

Outgoing Tyrolean deputy governor Ingrid Felipe (Greens) wants ÖVP’s National Council chairman Wolfgang Sobotka to be suspended or put on leave over the allegations against him in the wake of statements by ex-ÖBAG boss Thomas schmid. “He should be doing this out of responsibility for democracy. After all, the President of the National Council has the second highest office in our republic,” Felipe said on Saturday.

What is currently happening to the office is “not useful and not good”. She also suggested that Sobotka resign from chairing the ÖVP’s corruption inquiry commission, because it “doesn’t make a slender foot,” the former green federal spokeswoman said.

Sobotka is said to have intervened with Schmid at the Ministry of Finance. At his request, Schmid wants to stop tax audits at the Erwin Proell Foundation and the Alois Mock Institute. The President of the National Council denied all charges and announced legal action against Schmid.

Criticism of Wöginger and Nehammer
ÖVP club chairman August Wöginger, against whom the WKStA is investigating, and Chancellor Karl Nehammer also targeted Felipe. For both applies: “the air is already thin”. They have to explain themselves and “take responsibility”.

The whole thing is “certainly very stressful” for the ÖVP, the green coalition partner in the federal government, according to Felipe. The courts should clarify to what extent the allegations are true, but: “The picture painted of this Buberlpartie out there is catastrophic”. Criminal law is not the only measure to be taken: “It is also about morality and ethics”.

Full support for federal party
In any case, your party friends at the federal level would behave correctly, said Felipe, who will leave politics next Tuesday to form the black-red state coalition. She spoke out resolutely against new elections, because this would not in the least mean that education work would come to a standstill: “It is also a state responsibility to look at what is behind it”. You rely completely on your party friends in the federal government and trust them. They would assess the facts at the right time and “take the right approach”. When asked whether it was still justifiable that the Greens are part of the coalition at the federal level: “If my colleagues judge it that way now, then it is justifiable”.
