Austrian media editors have also run into problems with the statements of ex-ÖBAG boss Thomas Schmid and chats that have now become public.
Rainer Nowak, editor-in-chief and publisher of the “Presse”, has apologized “for the tonality and inappropriate closeness” (intended especially for Thomas Schmid) expressed in chats. He had the ambition to become an ORF general with an ÖVP ticket.
ORF editor-in-chief Matthias Schrom, in turn, writes to ORF employees after his talks with then FPÖ boss Heinz-Christian Strache revealed that this communication had “no happy external effect”. His defense: “In order to gain a basis for discussion, as editor-in-chief I adapted to the tonality and language of my interlocutor.”
However, the excitement about their editors-in-chief has not diminished by the apologies, neither in the Presse nor in the ORF. There it is said by the editors, among other things, that Schrom spoils the editors. And on the “Presse” there is an editorial meeting on Monday about the behavior of their boss.
