His job is to strongly represent the defense line of the People’s Party. The new Secretary General of the ÖVP, Christian Stocker, does this very matter-of-factly and consistently. After Laura Sachslehner’s surprise resignation, he took over as secretary-general a few weeks ago.
In the Club 3 lecture by “Krone”, “Kurier” and “profil” (see video above), Stocker saw no need for ex-ÖBAG boss Thomas Schmid to be excluded from the ÖVP, nor for Sebastian Kurz to have his ÖVP- lost membership should be put on hold to give the ÖVP a breathing space. “In my opinion, suspending Sebastian Kurz’s party membership is not a solution,” Stocker said. The investigations must first be completed, only then can it be assessed whether consequences in the form of party exclusion are justified.
“All allegations that have been made are still allegations. We need to review completed investigations, not every chat.” Was this sentence written for fear of losing even more Kurz supporters as voters? “We want to treat everyone equally and fairly. If someone is in a criminal investigation, everyone has the right to wait and see what emerges from the investigation. Also a Sebastian Kurz,” says Stocker.
