Criticism of the government – “Let’s draw a zero line”: NEOS pushes for new elections

Date:

At the state general assembly in Vienna on Saturday, NEOS reiterated its call for new federal elections. “Let’s draw a zero line,” demanded NEOS boss Beate Meinl-Reisinger. This is the only way to restore lost confidence in politics. “New elections are needed to reorganize the country and look to the future again,” argued Vienna’s pink deputy mayor, Christoph Wiederkehr.

The NEOS met in Vienna in the Uniqa Tower after two years of red-pink coalition on Saturday. In addition to a retrospective and exploration, the program included discussion and voting on the urban development plan (STEP). An election of the state spokesman was not pending. Return was only confirmed at an online general meeting a year ago at 95.7 percent.

Sharp criticism of the turquoise-green federal government
In her speech, Meinl-Reisinger lashed out at the turquoise-green federal government and criticized its “forgotten future” policies. The oblivion of the future not only affects the budget, but also the issue of the energy transition. How can the Greens explain to their constituents that climate targets are “disastrously missed” when they enter government, Meinl-Reisinger asked: “How can you explain the lack of a climate protection law?” Boss: “Colorful posters alone are not enough.”

“Bullshit Politics”
The ÖVP also got their fat. Meinl-Reisinger again criticized the “totally misguided discussion” of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), which had been launched by a people’s party that was “staggering” because of its own corruption. The NEOS boss described this move as “bullshit policy”. Such things are simply “spit out” and the voters get the impression that they can change something that cannot be changed.

Criticism also came from Chancellor Karl Nehammer’s (ÖVP) meeting with Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. Nehammer allowed himself to be guided almost “like a dolmen” by the ring on the “nose ring”. “Our federal government is sleeping with those people who are against a common Europe.”

Praise for the red-pink state government in Vienna
Naturally, Wiederkehr praised what had been achieved in Vienna over the past two years. The NEOS have added a lot of pink accents to government work: “We are the engine of innovation in the city.” The pink policy is not aimed at the headlines, but at work.

Back calls for consequences for failing federal states in the asylum issue
There was criticism of repetition in the asylum field in the other states. Vienna helps where possible, but is often left alone within Austria. While Vienna is the only federal state to meet the basic quota, others are refusing to pay their share, said Wiederkehr, who advocated that federal states that fell short of their quotas make compensation payments to Vienna.
