Fight against corruption – WKStA with poor track record: much fame, little success

For some they are heroes in the fight against corruption, for others a moderately successful investigation agency. We are talking about the Public Prosecution Service for Economic Affairs and Corruption, or WKStA for short. You do not keep a file yourself. The “Krone” scrutinized the trials and investigations of recent years.

The researchers’ record is mixed. Many major trials ended in acquittals, numerous investigations were halted and some verdicts overturned. The last major success was two years ago. The two most famous cases from the recent past are those of the Vorarlberg ÖVP governor Markus Wallner and the former FPÖ leader Heinz-Christian Strache.
