Election posters “copied” – why Franz Schnabl now makes Olaf Scholz

Looking for votes, the SPÖ in Lower Austria is apparently currently looking to Germany. The state party’s election posters seem to be based on those of the SPD campaign for the 2021 federal election with Olaf Scholz. What’s behind it and what the other parties in the country currently stand out with.

Officially, the SPÖ will only start the election campaign on Sunday. Like all his opponents now, top candidate Franz Schnabl is already grinning from one or the other election poster. German tourists and observant political observers are likely to experience déjà vu when they see them. The posters are almost astonishingly similar to those of top SPD candidate Olaf Scholz for his campaign in the 2021 German federal election (see images below).
