Chief of Police: ‘More than 50 percent of the perpetrators are foreigners’

Date:

After three murders and the riots on New Year’s Eve in Vienna, Katia Wagner wants to know where the aggression comes from in her conversation with the Viennese police chief Gerhard Pürstl. A big problem, according to him, are the “big youth groups that have nothing else in mind than mobile phones and bomber jackets”. They are not only “disrespectful” to the police, but also “cult to the population”. But the proportion of “foreigners committing crimes” is also high in Vienna…

According to statistics, less than 50 percent of crimes in Vienna are committed by Austrians. And among them, “very, very many” had a migration background, but that would not be recorded statistically, the senior police officer explains. He also tells of official acts in some districts of Vienna, “when the policemen no longer hear a word of German”. However, in a large city like Vienna, it is clear that the proportion of migrants in the population is higher.

Psychiatrist: ‘Perpetrators learn that actions have no consequences’
The respected psychiatrist Sigrun Roßmanith sees a complicity in the current development of our society in the fact that “the Austrian state only wants to give”. What is especially needed for young people is structure, boundaries and “a firm hand”. She talks about 30-year-olds who visit her practice and apply for a disability pension for psychological reasons. The lack of consequences is also a problem. “I sometimes examine patients who have already raped someone three times and three times there is talk of conviction or deportation. But it never happens,” reports Roßmanith. Perpetrators would learn from this: “What I do has no consequences.”

Who are the perpetrators of femicides?
Lower Austrian provincial councilor Ulrike Königsberger-Ludwig (SPÖ) also appeals to the victims. “Women should be able to get out of an abusive relationship,” she explains. It is also important to explain to victims that the blame is never on a victim. The State Council is also clear about the perpetrators: “Women’s rights are human rights and everyone who lives here must accept that.” Women run across all social classes.”

Mahrer (ÖVP): “Young gangs travel with ‘Allahu Akbar’ through Floridsdorf”
The chairman of the Vienna ÖVP, Karl Mahrer, vehemently contradicts this. Especially in Vienna, there is the phenomenon of “gangs of youths who pass through Floridsdorf with their cry ‘Allahu Akbar’ and just hang around”. To him, this is one reason why people would feel insecure. People came to us “who at the age of three had heard nothing but the machine gun.” Mahrer asks, “What do we expect from that?” Nevertheless, he admits that there are also Austrian perpetrators “especially when it comes to the murder of women”.

“Psychological abnormalities” in a Polish murderer…
The mayor of Linz, Klaus Luger (SPÖ), reports that in the case of the gunman, the perpetrator, a 41-year-old Iraqi, had already received an expulsion order. He has also been violent towards women in the past. The killing spree due to relationship problems was an “expression of his mental state”. In the two murder cases in Vienna – of a pharmacist and a mother – the facts are known, but the investigations are still in full swing, according to the police chief. An expert report will be prepared for him, because since murder, not robbery, was the main focus of the crime of the Polish homeless, according to Pürstl, it will “definitely go in the direction of psychological abnormalities”.
