A satirical poster that is questionable in several respects, a relatively late announcement by the governor and meager poll numbers: the SPÖ is not really getting going in the election campaign in Lower Austria. All that could have changed if Andreas Babler, the popular mayor of Traiskirchen SPÖ, took office. He started a preferential voting campaign via video on Thursday. But one crucial detail was missing from his statement.
Andreas Babler has been a lot in his life: he was a machine mechanic, a shift worker, State Secretary for Socialist Youth, was an SPÖ municipal councilor and soon afterwards also a municipal councilor in his hometown of Traiskirchen in the district of Baden. In 2014, Babeler took over the mayor’s office, became his own press spokesman, and probably because of his great rhetorical talent, has been associated with almost every attractive office in the state and federal party in the recent past. Now he wants to know in the state elections on January 29.
