The Provincial Court of Gipuzkoa has decided to reopen the Pasaia Bay ambush case. 40 years after the massacre of four members of the Anti-Capitalist Autonomous Commands, he will be a recognition wheel 28th of March.
After the assassination of socialist leader Enrique Casas in 1984, the Spanish National Police ambushed the anti-capitalist autonomous commandos and killed four people: Dioni Aizpuru, Pedro Mari Isart, Jose Mari Izura and Rafael Delas.
The only one who survived the slaughter, Joseba Merino (he spent 17 years in prison for the murder of Casas), he believes he has now recognized some of the police officers who took part in the ambush, leading to the reopening of the case. Merino recognized one of the police officers in a documentary broadcast on TVE. For example, the judge has called on Merino to participate in the recognition wheel.
The families of the ambush victims have celebrated the news, though they admit it will be a difficult process as they are 40 years of fighting on a path that led them to the Human Rights Court in Strasbourg. However, they have always been told that the case cannot proceed if the criminals cannot be identified.
