Urkullu has demanded a new political pact that recognizes “our national reality, the particularity of Basque self-government” and establishes a bilateral relationship with the state.

the lehendakari, Inigo Urkullucalled for exploring the way to apply the mechanism of “successful economic agreement, embedded in the European framework, to a new formula of Basque political agreement”.
In his speech at the centenary of Deusto Business Alumniin Madrid, the Lehendakari assured that “we have a solid foundation” so that relations between the Basque Country and the state are approached from the principles of “mutual recognition, institutional respect, cooperation and bilateral mechanisms to guarantee what has been agreed”.
The president has demanded a new political pact that recognizes “our national reality, the singularity of Basque self-government” and establishes a bilateral relationship with the state and promotes Euskadi’s European and international presence and projection.
In the words of the Lehendakari, “progress in self-government is not just about achieving pending transfers, it also means that they are valid and updated”. “It means adapting it to the new realities of the European Union, within the framework of a new territorial model of the state,” he added.
“In our vision for the future, we propose a new institutional and political pact that ushers in a new phase,” he insisted. “Consistently agree to modernize that form of single and bilateral relationship that symbolizes our historic rights,” he has demanded.
